Comparing ChatGPT SEO Plugins for Content and Keyword Research

Testing SEO Plugins on a Keyword Ranking Factors Prompt

In today's video, I wanted to do a comparison between the ChatGPT plugins to see which plugin is the best for keyword extraction, content research and website optimization. The first prompt that I used for all of the plugins was to give me the ranking factors I need to follow if I want to outrank the top ranking blog post for the keyword 'how to brew coffee at home'. I wanted to start with a more general prompt to see which SEO plugin is able to provide the most information with minimal input.

The first plugin I tested was SEO.app, which is available as a plugin on ChatGPT. The output I got back was pretty good - it provided a list of things I need to focus on like keyword optimization, related semantic indexing, emotional appeal, content length, readability score, competitor analysis, FAQs, major keywords, meta description, etc. Overall this was a useful, detailed response I can use to help optimize my content and outrank competitors.

The second plugin I tried was WebPilot, one of the more popular SEO ChatGPT plugins. The content it provided was decent, covering keyword optimization, metrics, quality content, backlinks, social signals, on-page and off-page SEO. However, I felt the information was more generic - for this specific prompt about ranking for 'how to brew coffee at home', I would have liked more tailored details on what I need to do to outrank other top posts.

The third SEO plugin I tested was SEO Core AI. Again, the output was very similar to WebPilot - generic high level advice about SEO but not very tailored to the prompt. The last plugin I tried was simply called SEO, and once again the output focused on general SEO recommendations without specific details for my prompt.

So for this first test, I would say SEO.app provided the most detailed and helpful response. While the format was similar across plugins, SEO.app included more useful details and actionable suggestions relevant to my prompt. Of course this is only one test case, so let's try another prompt to better evaluate these SEO plugins.

SEO.app Provides the Most Detailed Recommendations

For my initial test prompt asking for tips to rank for 'how to brew coffee at home', SEO.app stood out by providing the most detailed and tailored SEO recommendations. While other plugins like WebPilot, SEO Core AI, and SEO gave decent general SEO advice, SEO.app included specific tips like focusing on certain keywords, optimizing meta descriptions, building FAQs, and analyzing top competitors - recommendations tailored to ranking well for that coffee-related query. SEO.app seems capable of taking a specific prompt and keyword and providing thoughtful SEO optimization suggestions, not just generic blanket recommendations. For prompts designed to elicit detailed, customized SEO guidance, SEO.app appears superior in this initial test case.

Web Pilot and Other Plugins Give More Generic Advice

The other SEO plugins I tested - WebPilot, SEO Core AI, and SEO - provided decent but more generic, blanket SEO recommendations in response to my prompt about ranking for 'how to brew coffee at home'. These plugins covered important general optimization areas like keywords, quality content, backlinks, on-page SEO, etc. However, the advice was not very tailored to the specific keyword I asked about - it felt more like generic SEO checklist items. For a prompt meant to elicit detailed recommendations tied to a specific keyword, these other plugins came up a bit short. Their output was not bad, but lacked the nuanced suggestions tailored to 'how to brew coffee at home' that SEO.app was able to provide in its response.

Extracting Related Keywords and Metrics from the Plugins

For my next test, I prompted the SEO plugins to provide a list of related keywords, LSI keywords, keyword variations, and metrics like search volume and difficulty for the main keyword 'how to run Facebook ads'. I asked them to create an easy to read table with this data.

SEO.app did a good job, automatically generating a table with related keywords for my main phrase, estimated search volume and difficulty ratings - very useful organized data.

When I ran the same prompt with WebPilot, it initially told me it couldn't provide any keyword data since it doesn't have real-time internet access. So I had to tweak the prompt to ask for estimated metrics. WebPilot was then able to generate a table, but it was disappointing that I had to modify the prompt when SEO.app handled the original request smoothly.

SEO Core AI also initially said it couldn't provide the data, but ended up generating a table with estimates, similar to WebPilot. SEO was not able to provide actual metrics and said it lacked real-time data access.

So for extracting keyword related data into a table format, SEO.app definitely performed the best, requiring no tweaking and providing organized metrics automatically.

SEO.app Automatically Returns a Helpful Keywords Table

When prompted to provide a table of related keywords, search volume and difficulty for 'how to run Facebook ads', SEO.app instantly generated a helpful organized table with the requested data - no tweaking of the prompt needed. Having the keywords and estimates in an easy to read table makes the data so much more usable than just paragraphs of text. SEO.app demonstrated an ability to take in a request for specific SEO keyword metrics and deliver those details in a clean, structured table format. The other plugins struggled to provide this table of data automatically. For quickly extracting keyword research metrics into an actionable table, SEO.app was clearly the most capable plugin based on this test case.

Other Plugins Struggle to Provide Keyword Data

Unlike SEO.app, the other SEO plugins I tested could not instantly generate a table of keyword metrics when prompted with my 'Facebook ads' phrase. WebPilot said it lacked live internet access to get the data. SEO Core AI and SEO also informed me they couldn't provide actual metrics. Even after tweaking the prompts, none could match SEO.app's ability to immediately return a detailed keyword research table. Having to rephrase and coax the other plugins to provide organized keyword data made them much less useful in this regard. For cleanly delivering the requested keyword research metrics in table form, SEO.app clearly performed the best here.

Analyzing a URL for SEO Optimization Tips

For my last test, I provided the plugins with a specific URL and asked them to analyze it and extract detailed SEO recommendations for outranking that page for the keyword 'best AI apps of 2023'. I wanted to see how effectively each plugin could scrape a live page and provide optimization suggestions.

SEO.app provided decent advice like optimizing for keywords, meta info, quality content, etc - but it was still fairly general. WebPilot followed the same generic format. SEO Core AI did manage to extract some more specific technical recommendations from the page itself like word count, header tags usage etc., so it stood out a bit here.

But overall, most of the plugins relied on the same blanket SEO checklist approach instead of providing truly customized optimization suggestions tailored to outranking that specific URL. However, SEO Core AI did manage to extract some useful technical factors from the live page itself.

SEO Core AI Provides the Most Actionable Suggestions

When tasked with analyzing a specific URL to generate SEO tips for outranking it for a given keyword, SEO Core AI stood out by providing more detailed and technical recommendations compared to the other plugins. While SEO.app and WebPilot provided decent but generic SEO advice, SEO Core AI actually pulled useful optimization specifics from assessing the target URL itself - things like proper header tag usage, meta description length, and appropriate word count. These granular technical suggestions demonstrate SEO Core AI's capability to scrape a live page and extract tangible optimization opportunities, not just general SEO platitudes. For generating truly actionable SEO advice tailored to a URL, SEO Core AI appeared the most advanced plugin in this test case.

Most Plugins Give Similar General Recommendations

When prompted to analyze a specific URL to generate SEO tips for outranking it, SEO.app, WebPilot, and SEO all provided fairly broad, generic optimization advice. Their recommendations covered important best practices like keyword optimization and quality content but lacked specific technical suggestions tailored to optimizing against that particular URL. Unlike SEO Core AI which extracted detailed factors from the page itself, these other plugins relied on blanket SEO checklist recommendations. While not bad advice, for URL-specific SEO optimization suggestions, these plugins offered little beyond standard general best practices.

Conclusion and Recommendations

After testing leading ChatGPT SEO plugins with various prompts, here are my conclusions and recommendations on which ones excel at different use cases:

And for generating truly actionable, website-specific technical SEO tips by analyzing URLs, SEO Core AI surfaces the most optimization opportunities.

SEO.app Excels at Intuitive, Detailed Responses
